KAITLIN BRENNAN
Ottawa Commercial, Construction, Insurance, and Real Estate Litigation Lawyer
Kaitlin Brennan joined Tierney Stauffer LLP as a summer student in 2017. She returned for a second summer term in 2018 and completed her articles with the firm in 2020, gaining considerable exposure to all areas of civil litigation. Following her call to the Ontario Bar in 2020, Kaitlin rejoined the firm as an Associate in the civil litigation group, where she has built a practice grounded in practical, results-oriented advocacy.
Today, Kaitlin’s practice is focused primarily in the areas of construction law, commercial law, insurance litigation, and real estate litigation.
In her construction law practice, Kaitlin advises owners, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers on the full range of issues that arise on a project – from construction liens and holdback disputes to the prompt payment and adjudication regime under the Construction Act. She is also experienced in new-home warranty matters, regularly litigating Tarion disputes before the Licence Appeal Tribunal.
Kaitlin’s commercial law practice covers a broad spectrum of business disputes, including contract and debt claims, shareholder and partnership disagreements, bankruptcy matters, and other disputes that arise in the day-to-day operation of a business. She works closely with clients to understand their commercial objectives and to resolve matters efficiently, whether through negotiation or litigation.
In her insurance litigation practice, Kaitlin acts on coverage and liability disputes, bringing a thorough, detail-driven approach to the assessment and defence of claims. Her real estate litigation practice rounds out her work, where she handles disputes involving agreements of purchase and sale, title and property boundary issues, easements, and related conflicts between neighbours and property owners.
Kaitlin has considerable experience appearing before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Divisional Court, and is a persuasive and thoughtful advocate for her clients at every stage of a proceeding. She works out of the firm’s Ottawa office and also travels to the Cornwall and Kingston offices as needed to meet with clients on construction and commercial matters.
When she is not in the office, Kaitlin is enjoying time with her two little ones and family.
