I am one of the founding partners at Tierney Stauffer LLP and am a litigator exclusively in the personal injury and medical malpractice area.
With respect to my work as a litigation lawyer, I enjoy solving problems for my clients. I bring tools of resolution to the table, such as identifying the issues of liability, damages and knowing the best experts to untangle these issues and address them; as well as knowing how to leverage and negotiate to a fair resolution.
To keep up with Ottawa law issues and events, I have been a long-standing member of the Carleton-County Law Association. In addition, I am a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the OTLA Medical Malpractice Section.
Outside of work, I enjoy studying nature, such as astronomy, physics, and the exploration of the Ottawa Valley. The waterways of the Ottawa Valley are of great interest to me, especially the history of the Ottawa river and its tributaries. The geology of the area is fascinating.
In addition, exercise is the magic to enjoying life for me! So daily cardio and strength training in any form, depending on the season, allows me to continue to play. Cycling, paddling, cliff diving, waterskiing, and golfing are some of the summer activities that I pursue. Winter brings downhill skiing, snowshoeing as well hiking in the Gatineau which is all season fun!
In my downtime, I enjoy watching Netflix programs such as Peaky Blinders, Breaking Bad, Veep, Star Trek, and some Danish series such as The Bridge. I also enjoy the movies The Godfather 1 and 2, Terminator 1 and 2, Apocalypse Now, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, and Sleepless in Seattle (true). I also find it fun to identify an actor such as Meryl Streep or Paul Newman, and then watch all their films.
I have wide interests in music and bands and am usually driven by old 70s and 80s rock and new music that our kids bring into our lives. I also enjoy reading, and particularly like No Great Mischief by Alistair MacLeod. Currently I am currently reading the Ottawa Waterway: Gateway to a Continent by Robert Legget.
I have enjoyed combining travel and sports, such as skiing the Rockies during the months of January and February, then golfing in Texas in March…..then COVID sent us scrambling back home.
Ottawa is a great city and offers lots of opportunities for fun activities and yummy food. Most of all, I love hanging out with friends and family, eating and drinking at great pubs and restaurants in Ottawa and the Gatineau. My favourite restaurant is Trattoria Italia Cafe on Preston Street.
