I joined Tierney Stauffer LLP in February 2019, after articling and spending my first year of practice at two prominent national firms in downtown Ottawa.
I grew up in Ottawa, in a small family and in a very close community in Riverview, so moving from a large and nationally dispersed firm to a close-knit, local firm was definitely the right move for me. Instead of having to coordinate across multiple offices in different time zones, my colleagues are just down the hall and happy to just stop by and chat.
Right from my first experience working in the law, I have been drawn to corporate law issues. I love getting a complex business problem, taking it apart and finding creative ways to overcome a client’s obstacles with legal solutions. I have experience working on very large transactions where billions of dollars changed hands, all the way down to transferring small family-owned businesses from parents to their children.
While I always like to canvas multiple options and provide what I think is the best possible solution to a problem, I understand that cost is always an issue for the clients I serve. I strive to be as reasonable and practical in the advice I offer and try to find cost effective ways to get my clients’ businesses where they need to be.
When I am not in the office, you’ll probably find me up in the Gatineau Hills, either hiking or skiing depending on the season. On the weekends I try to carve out as much time as I can to be outside with my partner and our two dogs, which is where we make our best memories.
