Practice Summary:
Ian has practiced law for over 30 years throughout Ontario and now restricts his clientele to those who have civil litigation problems. Ian joined Tierney Stauffer LLP as a Partner in 1989.
He has handled a wide variety of cases involving insurance issues, personal injury, contract disputes, defamation and various forms of professional malpractice. He has taken many cases to trial and appeal. He has had considerable success, especially with Juries, acting for both plaintiffs and defendants.
In 1996, Ian was given the designation of “Specialist in Civil Litigation” by the Law Society of Upper Canada. In 2000, Ian was appointed as a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court.
Ian now splits his time between acting as a lawyer and as a mediator. He has mediated over 1500 cases and was certified by the ADR Institute of Canada as a Chartered Mediator in 2002.
He has taught at both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University.
Ian is on the Executive of the County and District Law Presidents' Association. He is a Past-President of the County of Carleton Law Association (2009).
